NEVER GIVE UP - ST. JOHNS -NEWFOUNDLAND - FEB. 26, 2020
There is a happy ending to a story that captured the hearts of animal lovers across the province. After about 10 months missing, Zoe the golden lab is home.
It brings closure to a harrowing tale involving sporadic sightings of the dog, and a community being brought together to get the pet back home.
In December, Peter Vaters and Rebecca Curlew of Bay Roberts told VOCM News that after eight months, they had nearly lost all hope of finding their dog. Until by chance a trail camera caught images of the animal in the area of Brigus Junction.
The story caught the attention of many who joined in on the search, reporting sightings and leaving food and treats out, hoping to get Zoe home.
Around 2 a.m. this morning, Curlew received a call that Zoe had been trapped in a cage, and they headed out to collect their dog.
They found no major open wounds or injuries, and after speaking with a vet, decided to take Zoe home to let her calm down and adjust back to the house life. Curlew reflected that despite advice that Zoe may act defensively upon return, she was pleasantly surprised to find Zoe was as gentle as they remembered, and highly affectionate.
She offered a heartfelt thanks to their newfound friends who offered assistance during the extensive search.
