TAYAKA - MARCH 2020 RIP

Takaya four days ago in Port Renfrew...Thank you to Chelsea Kuzman. I move between two emotional worlds ... absolute rage and a deep sorrow. These are a challenge to navigate together. In this post I want to speak about rage and anger. I am receiving messages from all around the world, most expressing emotional devastation and hurt at the senseless killing of this inspirational and beloved wolf. Many also express anger ... at humans and a world where this can happen. Some express hatred and anger towards the individual who chose to do this. The hunter has received death threats and the threat of exposure and social shaming. I am angry too. However, I believe that our anger must be directed not towards the individual (he will have enough of a challenge dealing with his own karma) but towards changing the policies and regulations that allow the killing of wolves without reason. We can, and must, channel this energy towards confronting the government sanctioned practice of allowing legal hunting and trapping of wolves, and includes a government-based cull using inhumane and unethical techniques like snares, 'Judas wolves' and gunning from helicopters. We must say a loud NO to a government that allows recreational hunters to legally kill wolves ... the situation that resulted in Takaya's murder. And we must work together to do this. I will be posting some ideas on this shortly and also will establish a petition in Takaya's name to address the shameful practice that allows largely unfettered hunting of wolves. This must stop. @raincoastconservation @ancientforestalliance @pacificwild @projectcoyoteorg @livingwithwolves

This is a challenge to work together. Let’s see what Takaya can do!
