YESTERDAY WAS THE DAY!
There are so many people who have played a part in the search and rescue for Grace I will try and not forget anyone but please forgive me if I do. I am an emotional mess today and I am trying to process all we have been thru in our search for her over the last 6 months. This morning I am still thinking I am going to wake up and finding her was just a dream. I have been typing this for two hours and the tears wont stop flowing. I have accidentally hit the wrong button and deleted everything 3 times...
Thank you Kathryn,Bill, Sarah and Don Later, Kat, Cory,Megan, Jay and Charlie, Alissa, all my family and friends for your continued support, my son Josh for being my rock, Hopes Rescue for there unwavering support, The Great Pyrenees Rescue of Montana, Brad Hunt with the DNR, Hailee Ann with Fox news, all of you have donated money and all of you who have
continued to support us even thru the darkest days of this journey to keep us going.
Saturday Jay and his daughter Charlie were riding ATVs and came across an emaciated dog laying in a field next to a flock of sheep. They stopped and sweet talked to the dog until she came thru the fence to see them. They could see she was nothing but skin and bones seeing everyone of her ribs and backbones sticking out. They gave her there lunch. With no way to take her with them they had to leave but could not stop thinking about her. When they got home they made a social media post of her and posted several pics. My friend Alissa saw the post and text it to me immediately. I called the number and ask Jay several questions about the dog and he answered yes to all of them. I couldn't hold back the emotions and well I lost it. Jay couldn't hold his back either. Within a few minutes we had plans to meet at the park and ride and he was taking me up to where they saw the dog. We searched until dark but could not find her. A new plan was made for Sundays search. Last minute plan was changed and I called Sarah to see if she could drop everything and come help me. Her and her husband Don were on there way back from Idaho and within 2 hours she and I were headed back up the mountain. We searched and searched for the sheep and could not find them. finally we spotted them with binoculars about 4 or 5 miles from the road up on a mountain side. We also spotted the herder and several border collies but no big white dog. We parked in front of the sheep herders camp separated by a barb wire fence and no trespass signs. It was getting chilly so we decided to build a fire and wait to see it the herder came down. He eventually did and we finally got his attention . He came over and we talked to him for a little while. We finally felt confident enough that we showed him a picture of Grace and asked him if that was his dog, He said yes and pointed to the sheep were on the far away mountain range. We knew that's where we would find her. We asked him if we could buy the dog. He said yes but to come back Tuesday. I said we cant wait till Tuesday and offered him $400. to go get her and bring her down. He said to follow him. He took us on a journey up to the sheep. He got ahead of us and I couldn't see him anymore. All of the sudden we heard a dog barking and running towards us. We both turned and dropped to our knees. It was Grace so thin, emaciated but running to us and barking as if she was saying, what the hell took you so long! I looked up the mountain to see if I could see the herder but he was gone. I saw his backpack he was carrying when we were following him hanging on a nearby tree. I took the money over and placed it in his backpack. I went back to kneel down by Sarah and Grace. I slipped the leash over her neck and got that damn collar of of her and threw it as far as I could. Sarah and I just sat there on the side of that mountain taking it all in for several hours feeding her treats and letting her love on us and us loving on her. It took us hours to get her off the mountain as she could only walk about 10 feet before she was exhausted. I knew we needed help to get off that mountain before it got dark. Sarah stayed with Grace and I hiked back to my truck to go get help.We had been gone all day and Sarah's husband Don was getting worried. Half way down the mountain I see him coming up to look for us. He is amazing and carried Grace the rest of the way down for us..We immediately took her to a 24 hour medical vet facility where she is doing amazing and getting the care she deserves and needs. She is the sweetest dog you have ever met. She has so much love to give and just wants to be loved. Thank you all for being part of this amazing journey! None of it would have been possible with out each and everyone of you. I thank the good Lord because I know he played the biggest part of all. I want to keep Grace and have her be a part of my family if she is happy here. If she is not we will find her a farm somewhere where she has room to roam with another Pyrenees. It would break my heart for her to leave but I love her and just want her to be happy after all she has been thru.
much Love,
Shelly Rovira
