PSA - 7 YEARS - AND THE JOURNEY CONTINUES

7 YEARS AND STILL GOING

January 4, 2020 marks 7 years since FLED was created.
24 years before that, we were just out there helping owners wherever and whenever we could. Vicki, (2013) the Boston Terrier from Japan and visiting in Brentwood was the first dog trapped under the banner of FLED. Vicki was safely trapped after 10 days on the lam. Once in the camera, it took 4 hours of patience to get her into the trap. Since the catch of Vicki, we have had many adventures, many searches, finds, trappings, and have given lots of assistance to dog owners. It has been a journey. This work is the most rewarding work there is. Just the involvement with owners, to help them with their lost dogs is so gratifying. Getting calls, emails and messages that a dog has been found by someone, anyone, is also extremely heartwarming.
Yes, there have been challenges – there always is when you are passionate about what you believe in and it conflicts with those who have very different beliefs. It can make this work a lot less fun, but it is still incredibly satisfying when working with the dog owners, or those who have found lost dogs.
2019 was extremely busy with searches, trappings, and helping families of lost pets. We also helped many dogs who had been found, get home again.
2020 is the start of a brand-new decade. More people are now microchipping their pets and/or getting tattoos when they have their dogs spayed or neutered, and also making sure they have recent photos on hand just in case.
In 2019 FLED was involved with: (approx. numbers as some we didn’t need to post because of reports of lost and found on the same dog, came in at the same time, so never got them posted lol)
Number of Reports into FLED in 2019 = 1395
Number of Happy Endings = 1104
Number of At Large = 236
Number of Possible Stolen = 27
Number Gone to Shelter = 17
Number Reported Deceased = 11
Number of Dogs Trapped = 3 2019, the end of a decade. Someday we will have to sit down and count all the dogs FLED has been involved with since this date, 2013, but we’ve never worried about the numbers because they aren’t as important as the Happy Endings. Not today however. Today we are far too busy. We hope everyone has a great 2020, lots of pleasant memories, and PLEASE, PLEASE microchip your pets.
