SOMETHING TO CONSIDER IN SENIOR DOGS

Older, weakened dogs who have never left the yard before, are sometimes assumed to be ill and are seeking a place to lay down and pass away.

This is rarely the case.

In the big picture, they may have just become confused and disoriented

Senior pets can suffer from a form of Canine Dementia.

They may stand facing the hinge of a closed door and will stare at it thinking it will open any time.

They may pace around the house, very anxiously, which is something they have not done before.

They may display different sleeping patterns such as sleeping most of the day, and pace most of the night.

They may stop responding to the normal commands that they have done for so many years.

We always think when a dog becomes a senior and these behaviors start, that they are old, and it might soon be their time.

But there are many health conditions that can cause these behavior changes.

And in senior dogs, Canine Dementia always needs to be considered among them.

Senior dogs may unintentionally wander beyond their familiar boundaries, and become lost

Always wear a bell or a GPS collar, and identification on your senior dogs
