R.I.P.

Sunday, Feb. 6th, had to be one of the most frustrating days

We received a call about a deceased dog in the river, at Bright Angel Park.

The dog appears to be, a Rottweiler Mix or Bully breed like a Mastiff Mix. It is a larger dog.

We contacted two of our FLED volunteers, Sue Turnbull, and Cheryl, as we were resetting a trap in Shawnigan for a dog. We ended up meeting Cheryl at the park and went to search for this dog. After we found this poor soul and decided it would take more than the three of us to remove him/her as the body has been the water for a little while, and this is a bigger dog. SOOO Cheryl got on the phone and called the RCMP, who directed us to call Animal Control, who told us to call the SPCA as this would fall under a cruelty call. Cheryl called the SPCA Cruelty Div., who shifted responsibility back to Animal Control. Animal Control say they do not pick up deceased dogs. She then called the CVRD and left a voice message with them since there was no number to contact on a weekend. So, she called the RCMP back, but he had an urgent call and hung up on her. So, the only place we did not call was the fire dept. but Gary is also on a volunteer fire dept. and did not figure they would come out either. So short of calling Cow Valley Search and Rescue, no one seemed able to help or care. FLED has recovered deceased dogs before and this guy/girl is not going to be an easy recovery.

We do not have anything listed on FLED, looking like this dog, but if you know of anyone missing a dog of this description, have them contact us ASAP
