It took me a week of literal torture to write this post here.
Last Wednesday, Aug 10th, I lost my two youngest labs on the same day. Now this post is NOT for sympathy but for education.
My 6 month old silver lab must have been playing, biting my 3 year olds collar like he always did. We were not at home. My husband came home, only being gone 20 minutes and found my 6 month olds jaw trapped and wrapped in the 3 year olds. The 3 year old had snapped her neck and was already gone the collar was twisted so tight around the 6 month olds bottom jaw, he attempted to cut it off but finally got the snap to let it open. In the process of this horrible ordeal my other 2 labs must have thought the 6 month old was killing the 3 year old and attacked him, trying to pull him off of her, not knowing he was attached by the jaw. Now just to be clear. These two are the most gentle, loving creatures God placed on this earth. We rushed the 6 month old to the emergency vet but he did not make it to surgery. The vet said he was in too great of shock and lost too much blood. As I type this I'm balling in devastation. I could never dream up this nightmare. Please keep the collars off your pets unless needed. Our vet said he sees at least 2 deaths a month from collar accidents. #AshyandHazel
