WHERE HAS EMPATHY GONE
We just want to express how terribly upset we are that we were unable to have one of the hospitals keep Bo’s body until tomorrow when we would be taking him to Until We Meet Again.
Bo was hit by a car, and killed on the TCH and Leigh Road, on the evening of Dec. 31st
FLED was contacted by the Westshore RCMP, about a deceased dog.
We contacted Emcon Services Inc., and we waited for them to send us a photo, so we could confirm or not if this dog was Bo. Sadly, it was Bo.
We contacted the family to break this sad news to them and told them if they wanted us to, FLED would take care of cremation arrangements if that is what they wished for Bo. They were terribly upset and agreed that would be best for this family.
We contacted Emcon and arranged with them to pick Bo up this morning, Jan. 2nd.
We contacted WAVES -westcoast animal veterinary emergency specialty hospital, on Jan. 1st, to enquire if we could bring Bo to them until Tuesday, as Until We Meet Again was not going to be open until Tues, Jan. 3rd. WAVES called us this morning, and said they were full, so unfortunately, WAVES was unable to accommodate Bo’s body, as their freezers were sadly full.
Our next call was to VCA Canada Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital, who told us they had room and to bring him in.
So, we went up to the S. Shawnigan Encom yard, picked up Bo, placed him in a container we have just for these horrible times, and headed down to Central Victoria Hospital.
When we got there, we were asked about paperwork for him to keep him until tomorrow when UWMA was open.
We explained what happened, how we came to have him in our care, and we were told there would be a fee for them to get UWMA to pick him up in the morning.
We explained that WE would be picking him up at which point they said something about him being a stray, which we told them he was not, and all of a sudden, they told us they were full, and taking in strays was not something the hospital did.
We were surprised that 2 hours before this, they had told us they had lots of room and to bring him in. NOW they suddenly were full, and we should call the CRD.
WHY would we do that when we already had the dog?
In the last 10 years, we have never had this kind of situation happen to us.
With this happening on New Year’s Eve, and with Until We Meet Again closed today, Monday, Jan. 2nd, we felt this was extraordinary circumstances.
This was a very disappointing day and one we hope is never repeated
